After years of debilitating back pain and a degenerative disc diagnosis, A.O. turned down spinal fusion and traveled to Germany for artificial disc replacement with Dr. Desai. Nearly four years on, he's running marathons, back on the football pitch, and finally able to be the present, active parent he wanted to be.
Today, nine years later, I am doing wonderfully. Thanks to that surgery, I live a pain-free life. I engage in strength training, running, swimming, and squash. I go hiking and travel the world with a backpack—doing everything I want to do without limitations.
I coped very well with the surgery. The intensive care in the days following was excellent. After three days, with the support of the physiotherapist, I was able to stand up with a walking frame and take my first steps. I was discharged home on the sixth day after the surgery.
