Spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis

the lumbar spine

Spondylolisthesis - Spondylolysis

Spondylolysis is a vertebral disease in which a tear or cleft forms in the vertebral arch. In spondylolysis, individual vertebrae move forward in relation to the lower vertebrae. The exact origin of spondylolisis, which also leads to deep back pain in young patients, is not clear, but mechanical and genetic factors are thought to play a role.

Conservative treatment

First, attempts are made to relieve the discomfort through physiotherapy and building up the core stabilizing muscles. Acute and permanent discomfort can be treated with painkillers. Injections in the area of the irritated nerve roots and wearing a lumbar brace to relieve the lumbar spine can also provide relief in individual cases.

Surgical therapy Spondylolysis

In the case of progressive vertebral gliding, neurological failure and severe permanent discomfort, the treating doctor will decide to have surgery. Depending on the severity of the condition, different procedures are used, which are individually tailored to the patient.
