Curriculum Vitae

After studying human medicine at the University of Bonn and Innsbruck, I completed the general surgery training at the Academic Teaching Hospital Kemperhof in Koblenz. During this time, I gained extensive experience in the departments of vascular surgery, plastic surgery, trauma surgery, paediatric and visceral surgery.

After graduating as a specialist in general surgery, I trained as a trauma surgeon and orthopaedic surgeon at the University Hospital of Cologne. Most recently, I was in charge of spinal surgery.

I worked for four years in the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at the Remigius-Hospital Leverkusen. The additional training in special orthopaedic surgery qualifies me to perform complex, most serious procedures.

Since 2010, I have been the Chief Physician of the Department of Surgical and Conservative Spine Therapy at the SANA Dreifaltigkeits-Krankenhaus in Cologne, where I have specialized in the treatment of deformities (scoliosis, kyphosis) and all other diseases of the neck, chest and lumbar spine. Another focus of my activity for more than 20 years has been the artificial disc replacement surgery on the cervical and lumbar spine.

I treat scoliosis in children and adolescents with all common methods from brace care to various surgical methods. These include the classic surgical correction with fusion, but since 2012 also more and more dynamic scoliosis correction procedures (Apifix), with which I can achieve very good results in many cases.

I have personally performed over 10,000 operations and implemented the posterior dynamic correction system APIFIX as one of the world's first spine surgeons.

Competence Team for "Pain-Free Golf"

PGA of America Golf Clinic

As one of the first chief physicians in Germany, I received the qualification “Golf Medical-Diagnostics” and subsequently established the first golf clinic of the PGA of Germany at the Sana Dreifaltigkeits-Hospital, Cologne.

The Sana Trinity Hospital Cologne has formed a competence team that offers the innovative treatment concept "Healthy Golfing" in cooperation with the nearby Kölner Golfclub (KGC). The specially trained golf physiotherapists treat patients according to golf-physiological aspects. They support both active golfers in acute cases and (still) non-golfers, who are offered a complementary form of postoperative therapy with golf.

The Sana Trinity Hospital Cologne has been a fixture in the healthcare sector for more than 100 years, even beyond the borders of Cologne. As early as the late 1970s, the hospital specialized in orthopaedic and accident surgery. Its own Medical Rehabilitation Center provides inpatient and outpatient follow-up care.

Patients who want to return to the golf course after spinal surgery, joint replacement surgery or an acute injury are in safe hands at the PGA Golf Clinic. For non-golfers, the therapists offer a complementary form of postoperative treatment via golf.

My team in the Golf Clinic of the PGA of Germany gives players and newcomers a help to be able to pursue the sport of golf for a long time and without any complaints – regardless of the age group or any physical handicaps.

The treatment concept includes biometric golf swing analysis using video recording and state-of-the-art 3-D analysis at the Cologne Golf Club, golf-specific training therapy, physiotherapy, massage and physical therapy. The rehabilitation centre also offers medical training therapy (MTT) and endurance training in the movement bath.

The aim is to improve the game of golf from a preventive and pathophysiological point of view and to develop an individual, biomechanically optimised movement in cooperation with the “Golf and Health” team of the Cologne Golf Club. To achieve this, the players are supervised directly on the course with extensive playing and training facilities.
