I am coming up on 4 years now and I feel truly grateful

I would benefit from ADR

I just wanted to take a minute to acknowledge and thank Dr. Biren Desai for performing what I consider a life changing surgery for me. I am not a social media divulger, but maybe some people need to hear my story.

I heard a pop in my back, while on a dirt biking trip around October of 2019. After that “pop”, I could only walk a few steps and would have to stop. Sitting was awful, and my thoughts were, “that's it, my life is over.” I was lucky enough to get into the facility where the neurosurgeons had worked on the famous Tiger Woods. But sadly when the neurosurgeon finally came in and sat with me, his reply to my MRI was that you have one herniated disc, your pain is in the wrong place, you are not a candidate for surgery, and your back will heal on its own. It was devastating. As luck would have it my dad was researching doctors who would be willing to perform ADR on his back due to his age. He injured his back 20+ years ago, he found a doctor in Germany that he trusted. I had already made plans to take off work to be able to go help him before my back “popped”. When we arrived, it seemed that my back was worse due to all the walking in Europe. My dad insisted I show Dr. Desai my MRI while I was there. To my surprise he took the time to actually look at my MRI. He showed me I had two herniated discs and I would benefit from ADR.
The day after my dad’s surgery, my dad’s first words were, “my back pain is gone.” Then and there, I decided I needed Dr. Desai to help me. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to afford another trip or more time off work. I approached Dr. Desai about doing the surgery for me while I was there. I feel like he was just in shock with what I had asked of him, but understood. His reply was, ``I just need to make sure I’m not on holiday, '' and my response was,” I just need you to do the surgery, and you can take off the next day for holiday.” I mean that’s how it works in the US. Not how he works. He agreed, I literally had 2 days to prepare. It was successful, he checked on me everyday for 2 weeks. It changed my perspective on how medicine should be practiced.
I am coming up on 4 years now and I feel truly grateful and indebted to Dr. Desai for what he did for me. I am able to do all the things I love wakesurf, snowboard, motorcycling, you name it. Everyday that I can just walk without pain, is truly a gift Dr. Desai was able to give me. No words can describe how grateful I am to this man.
